Why patients choose Dr Adith?
Dr Adith is one of the few orthodontists in New Zealand who is simultaneously an active researcher, a university lecturer, and a full-time specialist clinician. With over 130 peer-reviewed publications and more than 1,450 academic citations, he brings a depth of scientific understanding to every diagnosis and treatment plan that goes well beyond what is available in a typical private practice. As a Senior Lecturer at the University of Otago's Faculty of Dentistry, he teaches the next generation of orthodontists — meaning his knowledge is not years out of date, but current, tested, and internationally peer-reviewed. He is a keynote speaker at orthodontic congresses across four continents, and a recognised expert in TAD-based biomechanics, gummy smile correction, and complex malocclusions that other practitioners routinely refer out. His patients in Auckland access a level of expertise that would otherwise require travelling overseas — and every initial consultation is conducted personally by Dr Adith, with a thorough, honest diagnosis at its centre.
Academic Expertise Translated into Patient Care
Dr Adith's research is not a separate part of his professional life — it directly shapes how he treats patients. His published work on TAD-based biomechanics, gummy smile aetiology, bone-borne palatal expansion, AI-assisted treatment planning, and clear aligner outcomes means that when he recommends a particular approach, it is grounded in evidence he has contributed to himself, not simply borrowed from a manufacturer's brochure. This is most visible in complex cases: where other clinicians may offer a single standard solution, Dr Adith draws on a working knowledge of the clinical literature to identify the most conservative, stable, and individually appropriate treatment path. As a contributing editor for the Journal of Clinical Orthodontics and an ongoing lecturer at Otago, he remains embedded in the professional conversation that advances the field — so his practice evolves with the science, not behind it.
