Orthodontic care for teenagers and adults

Integrating advanced technology for precision and personal care.

Providing specialist orthodontic care for your family in central Auckland, as well as professional education for dentists and orthodontists across New Zealand and internationally.

Experience top-notch orthodontic care at Parnell Orthodontics. Our skilled team, lead by Dr Adith, is dedicated to providing you with personalised treatment plans to achieve a beautiful smile, including options customised to meet your child’s specific requirements.

The New Zealand Association of Orthodontists (NZAO) recommends that you consult an orthodontist as soon as you observe any problems with your child’s misaligned teeth or jaw. For younger patients under the age of 12, Dr. Adith may recommend interceptive treatment, which aims to tackle issues early on to avert more serious complications in the future. This could include creating adequate space for teeth to develop correctly or addressing bite issues before they escalate.

Modern Braces

3D Sophisticated Tech for Faster Results & More Comfort. These are Not Your Parent’s Braces. A Whole New Experience

The Personal Experience:
Think braces are bulky and painful? Think again. Today’s modern braces are smaller, smoother, and more comfortable than ever. Whether you are choosing them for your child or yourself, we focus on a gentle experience that minimises discomfort and fits your aesthetic—including Resin & Ceramic options that blend in with your natural teeth.

The Personalised Science:
We utilise leading-edge bracket systems that reduce friction, meaning your teeth move more comfortably and often faster than with traditional methods. By integrating advanced alloy wires—technology originally developed by NASA—we can provide consistent, gentle pressure that requires fewer adjustments. This is personalised engineering at its best, tailored to your specific jaw structure for a stable, healthy, and beautiful bite.

  • Low Profile Smaller brackets mean less irritation.

  • High-Performance Wires = Faster movement with less "tightening."

Braces

Gentle Force Orthodontic Braces - Metal, Resin & Ceramic

Metal braces are the most widely utilised orthodontic devices globally. They feature a silver hue and are constructed from high-quality medical stainless steel. Brackets are matched to each tooth and connected by a gentle force flexible wire, that is changeable and adjustable as per the Orthodontists plan to control movements.

Small coloured rubber bands (o-rings) are frequently applied to secure the wire to the brackets, allowing you to personalise the brackets with various colours that can be changed during your treatment!

Ceramic or Resin brackets are composed of tooth coloured or transparent materials, making them less noticeable, in comparison to metal braces. While they may be more aesthetic, they are generally weaker than metal braces. The o-rings (small rubber bands) that attach the wire to the brackets can also be clear.

TADs (Temporary Anchorage Devices)

Precision Orthodontics for Complex Tooth Movement

At Parnell Orthodontics, Dr Adith Venugopal integrates clinical practice with his internationally recognised research and advanced biomechanical expertise. With more than 130 peer-reviewed publications and extensive global teaching experience in TAD-based biomechanics & complex orthodontic mechanics, he applies advanced techniques with precision, predictability, and clear clinical purpose.

What Are TADs?

TADs (Temporary Anchorage Devices) are small, titanium mini-implants used as stable anchor points during orthodontic treatment. They are placed into the jawbone and removed once they’ve helped achieve the desired tooth movement.

Traditionally, moving one tooth often relies on another tooth as the “anchor,” which can allow the anchoring tooth to shift as well. TADs overcome this by providing a fixed, immobile anchor, giving the orthodontist much greater control over how and where teeth move. This enhanced precision is especially valuable in more challenging cases.

Key Uses for TADs

Orthodontists typically recommend TADs for complex cases where standard braces or aligners need extra help, like:

  • Closing Large Gaps: They help pull teeth together to close spaces from missing or extracted teeth without shifting the surrounding teeth.

  • Correcting "Gummy" Smiles: TADs can "intrude" (push up) the upper front teeth to reduce the amount of gum showing when you smile.

  • Fixing Impacted Teeth: They provide the necessary leverage to pull a tooth that is stuck in the gums or bone into its proper position.

  • Molar Uprighting: If a molar has tilted into a gap, a TAD can pull it back upright without affecting the teeth in front of it.

  • Correcting Severe Overbites/Underbites: They allow for significant jaw alignment changes that might otherwise require surgery or headgear.

Dr Adith has delivered numerous international workshops and keynote lectures on these biomechanical principles, helping clinicians worldwide understand when and how to use TADs effectively.

How TADs Help Your Treatment

  • Greater precision: TADs provide stable anchorage that doesn’t move, allowing very controlled tooth movement.

  • Efficient mechanics: By reducing unwanted tooth movement, TADs help streamline treatment in complex cases.

  • Reduced need for extra appliances: In many situations, TADs reduce the need for external appliances such as headgear.

  • Better predictability: Their use can make challenging tooth movements more predictable within a carefully planned treatment strategy.

TADs are typically combined with other modern tools such as ceramic or self-ligating brackets, and clear aligners such as Invisalign® or Angel Aligner® as part of a comprehensive, personalised orthodontic approach.

Why Experience Matters

Dr Adith not only uses advanced techniques like TADs in clinical practice; he also teaches them to orthodontists worldwide through courses and workshops focused on biomechanics and TAD-based mechanics, and publishes widely in international journals on related topics. His commitment to evidence-based practice and precise mechanics means that every use of TADs at Parnell Orthodontics is grounded in sound science, thoughtful planning, and respected clinical expertise.
